6 DALLAS AREA STAYCATIONS TO EXPERIENCE THIS FALL

Updated: May 18, 2021

Staycations and road trips are more popular than ever for Texans. With fewer and fewer people willing to hop on a plane right now, you've probably thought about where you could "get away" right here in Dallas / Fort Worth. At this point, if you're like me, you're VERY OVER the views from your couch. So where can you safely visit in the Metroplex? Here are six Dallas staycation ideas that will feel like a vacation.

And because it was nearly impossible to pick just six of these for you guys, I added some BONUS hotels to visit that I also love, so be sure to catch those at the end!

1. The Adolphus in Downtown Dallas

Where are all of my history buffs... this historic hotel is for you. The Adolphus was built in 1912 by Adolphus Busch, co-founder of Anheuser-Busch. He was so enamored with this particular spot in Dallas that he paid to move City Hall, which had perviously filled the spot in the early 1900s. Adolphus Busch thought Dallas was the "City of the Future".

Although you'll still find an exterior modeled after a Germanic Castle, the inside has been completely remodeled and pays tribute to the luxury hotel's 100 year history. You'll even find a Steinway piano whose twin was on the Titanic!!

Things to do when you visit //

  1. Book a reservation for Holiday Tea in The French Room (begins November 4th)

  2. Have a 1912 cocktail (their take on the old fashioned) at the City Hall Bistro Lobby bar

  3. Visit the rooftop pool (it's heated and a cozy 82 degrees year round)

  4. Shop in the most gorgeous boutique and buy yourself a custom Stetson from Commerce

2. Rosewood mansion on turtle creek

Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek recently completed a multi-year renovation and it couldn't be more gorgeous or more luxurious. Don't take my word for it though, Rosewood Mansion was recently voted the number one hotel in Texas by Conde Nast Traveler.

We did a staycation here with my friends at Visit Dallas a few months ago and it was unlike any hotel I've ever visited. Every team member remembered our name upon entrance and exit, even the bartenders in the famous Mansion Bar greeted us by name. We felt like celebrities.

Things to do when you visit //

  1. Take a spin in one of their Lexus house cars for the afternoon with their Lexus amazing drive opportunity. This is complimentary with your visit, we took the SUV but there is also a sports car.

  2. Have a Mansion G+T at The Mansion Bar. A dark, sultry, swanky space with live music Thursday - Saturday nights.

  3. Visit the Mansion's pool, which is open year round. The space is so large it'll feel like your own private pool dotted with classic umbrellas for every pair of chairs.

  4. Play tourist in your own town with unique Dallas recommendations from one of the best concierge teams in town, Evan and Mary.

3. Hotel Vin in Grapevine

How about a staycation that feels like a vacation? Forget Fredericksburg, you can get all of your wine indulgences right here in Grapevine when you visit the brand new Hotel Vin, part of the Autograph Collection.

Hotel Vin just opened in early September and it could not be more gorgeous or well appointed. First of all, it is walkable to all of the fun wineries on Main Street Grapevine, but why would you need to leave this stunning boutique hotel? You wouldn't because you can get an amazing dinner, post-dinner cocktails and experience a boozy Champagne brunch.

Things to do when you visit //

  1. Kick your heels (boots?) up with a martini by the cozy fireplace in the lobby

  2. Enjoy a steak or pasta dinner in Bacchus Kitchen + Bar.

  3. Have a glass of Texas wine and enjoy live music which takes place in their outdoor space, The Junction, on Friday and Saturday nights.

  4. BOOZY BRUNCH 🥂 Since you can walk everywhere from Hotel Vin, might as well have a bottle of bubbly at brunch, just tell me I'm wrong. Pro Tip: Get the French Toast, it's absurd and you need it.

  5. COMING SOON: Harvest Hall, their new chef-driven, Euorpean Style food hall featuring 7 kitchens (you'll see some familiar Dallas staples) and two bars!

  6. Find the secret room in the lobby. Hint - look for a place to give someone a ring 📞

4. Hotel Lucy in Granbury

I can't even talk about this place without getting excited. My previous job was in social media for boutique hotels, so I've been to a lot of extraordinary properties, but nothing quite like Hotel Lucy. This13 room boutique hotel spans across two houses and just opened in September in Granbury, about an hour and 15 minutes from Dallas. Hotel Lucy is the brain child of Hard Eight BBQ owner Vicki Nivens.

On our visit we stayed in the "Hey Sugar" suite, a pink paradise complete with the fanciest pink couch overlooking Lake Granbury. Added bonus you never knew you needed, a soaking tub which filled from the ceiling. Just, wow.

Things to do when you visit //

  1. If possible, ask to peek into any vacant rooms because every room has a different design from yours! There is a Vinyl room inspired by Stevie Nicks, the Vera Parker room with your very own fireplace and plush green seating area, or the "Shades of Gray" room inspired by.. well... you get it!

  2. Bring your girls and rent out The Vivi House, with a full size kitchen, living room and private deck with a fireplace overlooking the pool.

  3. Enjoy complimentary beer + wine at their nightly happy hour in the lounge

  4. Explore Downtown Granbury, located within walking distance to Hotel Lucy. My top choices are a steak dinner at 1890 Grille and craft cocktails at Local Goat.

5. Hotel Crescent Court

If you are a stage five clinger dog mom like I am, this spot is for you! Bring the pups for a "Dogcation" at Hotel Crescent Court. They have a special package called the "Crescent Canines" which includes things like Sprinkles PupCakes for your dog, souvenir dog toy, a branded bandana and even a special "SPAW" menu.

CUTEEEEEE! Added bonus for you, the dog parent, Hotel Crescent Court also made the list of Conde Nast Traveler's top hotels in Texas.

Things to do when you visit (and you're not hanging with the pups) //

  1. Drinks in Hotel Crescent Court's lobby bar, better known as Beau Nash. Their lobby is ridiculously breathtaking, filled with giant vases and fresh, colorful floral that was very clearly hand selected and curated very thoughtfully. My pick? A dirty martini or the smoked old fashioned!

  2. Be fancy and indulge in Afternoon Tea (which returns November 7th). They also have an option to add on "Endless Champagne".... what a great idea, don't mind if I do!

  3. Have the best sushi night at the always posh, NOBU. Not promising you anything here, but when we went we saw more than one Dallas sports legend. Just saying!

  4. Walk to tons of Dallas' favorite restaurants, located in Crescent Court, like Sixty Vines, Ascension Coffee or Capital Grille.

6. Texican Court

For our last spot, I wanted to show you a place a little more on the budget friendly side, the Texican Court with stays as low as $89! The Texican Court is for people like me who love the idea of being one with the great outdoors, but deep down prefer nice bedding, a soaking tub and cable TV.

For this spot you for sure need to pack up the Cowboy hat and boots because it's as Texan as it gets. Think pink rhinestone Cowboy, with fire pits, mezcal and S'mores.

Things to do when you visit //

  1. Be sure to take advantage of your complimentary Lone Star beer, fresh out of their retro pink SMEG fridge at check in.

  2. Roast some S'mores at one of their numerous outdoor fire pits.

  3. Discover a new favorite tequila at their tiny, and adorable tequila bar. Although this is currently closed, I hope by the time you're reading this they have reopened because it's too cute!

  4. Grab a margarita from their restaurant, Two Mules Cantina, and enjoy live music in their courtyard every Friday + Saturday night

  5. Walk across the street to what I think is one of the most underrated nightlife spots, Toyota Music Factory. Keep the Texan theme going by making Mama Tried, your first stop of the night!
