As we embrace diversity and inclusivity this Pride Month, we're shining a spotlight on the landmarks that showcase rainbow imagery, spreading love and acceptance throughout our bustling Texan metropolis. Join us on this colorful journey as we explore these landmarks this June. Whether you're a local resident or planning a visit, this guide will ensure you don't miss the chance to witness the beautiful rainbow displays that symbolize unity and pride in the DFW community.
1. oak lawn crosswalks
In the spring of 2020, 10 rainbow crosswalks like this one were installed in the Oak Lawn area, from Oak Lawn Avenue to Douglas Avenue and Cedar Springs. They came as part of a then-$1.4 million City of Dallas beautification project that included multicolored archways over Cedar Springs with a nod to the area's LGBTQIA2S+ traditions. Did you know, Oak Lawn was recently named the Best Gayborhood in the U.S. by "Out Traveler" Magazine?
2. rainbow pancakes at sugar factory
Sugar Factory in Uptown is every bit as FABULOUS as you are, and they love to live out loud with their huge, candy-laden drink menu and their lavish over-the-top food menu, which features these sweet beauties. They also feature a Rainbow Cake if you're just in for dessert, which starts with layers of colored vanilla cake and comes with white chocolate sauce, Skittles and, of course, whipped cream.
3. this mural in the west village
When we're visiting the West Village and trying to decide where to park, ultimately the parking garage with this slick, multicolored mural wins out because it provides such a cute opportunity for photo ops before (or after) a day of shopping and eating!
4. Rainbow Bagels at Bagel cafe 21
Richardson's Bagel Cafe 21 recently reopened after a three-week hiatus due to a family emergency, according to their Facebook page, and we couldn't be more glad! One small reason we love to visit are these bright and festive rainbow colored bagels, which they will continue to serve during Pride Month. The bagels, muffins and breakfast sandwiches here are some of the best-kept secrets in Dallas.
5. wall mural at electric shuffle
We love this colorful and fun mural on the side of Deep Ellum's Electric Shuffle, the elevated Shuffleboard funhouse experience that EVERYONE can enjoy. Electric Shuffle keeps people coming back for more with its digital interactive gameplay, developed by literal rocket scientists. Reserve your spot here, and be sure to stop and get a selfie at this rainbow mural!
6. basically anything at sweetzy's
Almost everything on the menu at Sweetzy's in Fort Worth is rainbow-colored, so take your pick this Pride Month! With these over-the-top, loaded snow cones, not even the sky is the limit — your imagination is! The Sweetzy's hut sits right next to the colorful Dolly Parton mural at the Market at Ridlea in West Fort Worth.
7. Rainbow cupcakes at carnell's cakery
Everything on the menu is edible art at this mom-and-daughter artisan cake shop in South Dallas. This Pride Month, why not order a batch of these festive Rainbow Cupcakes! They're always moist and delicious. Pro tip: while you're there, don't leave without trying a slice of cheesecake as well — or, better yet, take home a whole one!
8. rainbow roll at sushi house
One of our favorite sushi spots in Dallas serves up some great signature roll creations that are all their own, but they also craft the classics like few others can, including the greatness of the Rainbow Roll. A tried and true California Roll is topped with slivers of five different varieties of fish, and you finish it off with as much wasabi and soy as you deem appropriate. Also try their signature Sushi House Roll and the Bluefin Tuna nigiri.
9. rainbow teashop boba
This colorful Boba shop in Plano makes drinks that make us happy, plain and simple. If you ever find yourself in need of a little pick-me-up, we highly recommend treating yourself to some of Rainbow Teashop's delectable sweet and fruity creations. It's the ultimate Boba tea shop, serving a variety of unique flavors, that are customizable to your taste buds and incredibly fun to look at! Tea, matcha and coffee lovers will also find something that hits the spot.
